New year, new music! Its been little over a month since my last album review, but rest assured I have no plans on stopping. Last night as I gathered all of my things in preparation for work today I found myself terribly disappointed that my break was already over and that I would be returning to work. The silver lining to this dark cloud, however, is that I find it easier to explore new music while I'm working than when I'm at home.

The first review of the year is a positive one on a project titled As If We Are Sinking by Year of the Wolf. I found this album last night as I scrambled to find new music to listen to today and this did not disappoint. As I am typing this review, I am listening to it for the third time this morning. The band originated with Ottawa-natives Kyle Vaughan and Chad Gilmour in 2012 and added 3 more members throughout the following year. This is their first full-length project, coming one year after winning a music festival contest in Vancouver in 2016. There's not much information on the band to provide as they are still very green but I believe that you can expect to hear more from them in the future.

As If We Are Sinking is categorized as a rock album but influences from other genres such as indie pop, blues, country and folk can be heard throughout the tracks. I would describe it as alternative rock. The upbeat sound of this album and the lead singer's voice make it infectious to listen to and lifts spirits. It contains a couple bass and guitar solos which are not overbearing but still amusing to listen to when they come up. My favourite song from the album is Tools of the Devil because I love the way that it picks up near the end right before a short bass solo.
