As we draw into fall and the weather cools down this email blog comes in time to raise our spirits. SCM INTERNal news is a blog created for the people by the people and will be posted on an unscheduled basis. Giving you the latest and oldest in music, helping you to discover sounds that you may never come across again. The opinions in this blog may not be reflective of your own tastes and it is recommended that you give each album a listen and conjure your own thoughts.
This week's album is brought to you by Nathan Feuerstein, stage name NF. Nathan grew up in a single parent home, raised by his father after a drug overdose abruptly ended his mother's life. He began his career in hip-hop performing at a fine arts festival in the US and it was history from there. NF brings us a mix of both downtempo and uptempo beats with a style reminiscent of Eminem. The rapper sings about his daily struggles and gives us all a peak into what its like to be Nate Freuerstein.
Suggested to me by a friend, this artist took me by surprise. Pertaining specifically to this album though, the intensity and confidence with which he raps really stands out to me. He has so much passion for his craft in a way that is in-your-face but not cocky. I really enjoy the flow of his lyrics. His bars consistently have the sound of long run-on sentences rather than fully formed and separated thoughts throughout the album. A contrast to this would be the song Bad and Boujee by Migos where every line is fully separated from the next. NF still has some songs on Perception that have the more fragmented sound but I noticed that those are the songs that don't stand out to me when I listen through the album. I also appreciate the vulnerability and truth in his words. Each song is about his own experience and struggles or regrets in life and he gives us a little peek at what he feels behind closed doors.
The production is pretty simple throughout, each song having a steady and prominent drum beat, allowing his voice to truly be the final and most important instrument. Nathan sings in a couple of songs on this album as well, displaying his musical duality.
My favourite songs from this album are Intro III, Destiny, If You Want Love and Know but there are no songs that I even slightly dislike so for its consistency in being able to impress me from top to bottom, I rate this album 5 stars out of 5.
